The Wells girls will close the Finger Lakes icon if a buyer isn’t found

End of an Era for a Finger Lakes Icon?: A very sad reality is looming for one of the great, nostalgic stores not just in New York State—but in all of America. As noted here prior, the 1849 Olde Country Store & More in North Cohocton, NY—a few minutes from Naples—has been for sale. Twice last year, they had offers to purchase the iconic store—offers that fell through late in the game. Now the owners—the Wells girls, Jenny and Denise—have little option than to put a deadline on the operation. If they don’t sell the turnkey business by September 1, they will close for good and have a “going out of business”clearance sale of everything.
For now, they will remain open—it’s business as usual. The German-born women came here in 2015–their dad, Jeff Wells, was from this area. With their dad’s assistance, they brought this one-of-a-kind candy shop (and more) back to its luster. Jenny and Denise have put everything they have into this place. They’re great people and it’s one of the reasons I promote this unique treasure so often here on the page. Now it’s time for the Wells girls to return to their native land. This place is nostalgic, wonderful in every way. I promise—if they can sell it before September 1–I will offer tens of thousands of dollars of marketing here on the page to the new owner. It takes a very special place for me to keep coming back and posting about…and THIS is it! Time is running out for this Finger Lakes icon—a destination place enjoyed by many through the years. Please share the word about the impending deadline—there has to be a suitable owner, a proper fit, SOMEWHERE out there!
Interested parties can inquire by calling the shop during business hours. The Olde Country Store and More – 1849
