Happy Friday from Cameron Mills on the Canisteo River

Photojournal by Janie Ferguson,

It is currently 53* and overcast here in Cameron Mills, NY today at 10:00 am.

I begin this week with a female red-bellied woodpecker. You can view the red on her lower belly in this shot. Also, my grandchildren Ronnie & Elizabeth, looking at the high water along the Canisteo River yesterday morning, from all the rain that we have had this week.

The Almond & Arkport Dams play a crucial role in managing the flow, and reducing flood risks along the river.

Next a lovely, female cardinal enjoying sunflower seeds at my feeder. They have a thick orange-red bill, which is well suited for cracking open seeds. Also, the view by the boat launch, and the bridge here shows the high waters we have had this week. Thankfully we didn’t have flooding here, as so many did in Northern Steuben County. Hoping things are back to normal for them by now.

I hope you all enjoy your Easter weekend, and have a Good Friday, too.
