WELLSVILLE 14 CANISTEO-GREENWOOD 4

Wellsville improved to 5-2 with a 14-4 win over Canisteo-Greenwood on Saturday. The game was a continuation from a suspended game on Wednesday because of weather Wellsville won by the 10-run rule in the sixth.

Senior Trenton Green went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI’s, a double, stolen base and scored three runs for the Lions. The shortstop turned his fourth double play of the season with second baseman Drew Cowburn.

Also for Wellsville (5-2), sophomore Paul Giovanniello was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, a double and RBI, Cowburn had a RBI single and stole a base, Brennen Geffers scored three runs and stole three bases while Anthony Button scored twice.

Button, a junior, got the win on the mound for Wellsville, going six innings with five strikeouts and three walks.

For Canisteo-Greenwood (0-3) Garrett Charles had two hits, Kevin Sirianni had a double and Brendon Ackerman singled.

From Wellsville coach John Anderson:

“This was a continuation from a game started Wednesday. Our ground keepers worked hard to get this in. Canisteo-Greenwood has solid pitching and good hitting through the lineup, they’ve played three good teams tough. Anthony Button had a strong outing for us, made great adjustments on the mound and Trenton Green is such an exciting player to watch.
