Laura G. Young, 94, passed away on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.
Laura was born on August 20, 1931 in Ramapo, NY to Peter and Mary (Straut) Bradley. She married John Rooney and together they welcomed their son, Patrick, on September 28, 1951 before John predeceased her in 1972. On April 12, 1976, in Rockland County, she married Russell Young, who predeceased her on July 30, 2012.
Laura dedicated herself as a homemaker, caring for the needs of her family. She is survived by a son, Patrick (Cindy) Rooney of Fairmount, GA; two granddaughters, Christina (Frank) Hammonds of Scio, NY and Trish (Blake) Carr of Buffalo, NY; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Hammonds and Evan Hammonds. Laura was predeceased by a grandson, John Rooney.
Laura was driven by her faith and ministry as a Jehovah Witness. She loved to talk with others and share her faith and encouragement whenever possible. Apart from that, Laura lived a simple but active lifestyle. She was passionate about flowers and enjoyed spending her free time working in her garden. She enjoyed daily walks on Schuyler Street as they were a great way for her to remain active and to greet others along the way.
Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation or funeral service. A private burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio at the convenience of the family.
