Malnourished and mistreated animals have been removed by rescue groups

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on May 18, 2026, Investigators and Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sheri L. King, age 54, of Hillside Lane, Cohocton, New York, following a report of animal neglect. On April 24th, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence of Ms. King, revealing over thirty animals in various states of malnourishment and maltreatment. It is alleged that Ms. King failed to properly house, feed or water the animals over a period of time, resulting in multiple serious health issues to the dogs. All animals were removed by the Finger Lakes SPCA and Hornell Humane Society for treatment. Ms. King is charged with 34 counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. Ms. King was released on an appearance ticket to return to the Avoca Town Court.
