Long time volunteer Rick Packer passed away Friday, June 19, 2026. Rick was the type of volunteer every organization wishes for: always offering to help wherever he was needed. He loved nothing more than to be involved in all museum events. Recently Rick did a presentation for Erie Education Days for local school children, and served as the museum’s official “greeter” during our Open Houses and other events.
Recently Rick greeted over 800 visitors to the museum the day Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 came through Hornell! Rick loved sharing stories of his 37 years working on the railroad as a bridge inspector, on the track crew, and in other positions. He will be missed by all!
