Summer is here, and the City of Hornell’s Summer Playground Program is officially underway! The free program offers children a fun, safe, and supervised place to spend their summer days with games, sports, crafts, special activities, and opportunities to make new friends.

The program is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Veterans Memorial Park
  • Stephens Avenue Apartments
  • Maple City Park (High School)
  • Columbian School
  • Bryant Apartments

New this year, children participating in the Summer Playground Program will enjoy weekly trips to the City Pool at Veterans Memorial Park at no cost. The City will provide transportation, and there is no charge for either the bus or pool admission during these scheduled visits. Participants simply need to bring a swimsuit and towel.

Beginning July 6, playground participants will visit the pool from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following schedule (permission slip required):

  • Mondays: Columbian School and Maple City Park
  • Wednesdays: Bryant Apartments, Stephens Avenue Apartments, and Veterans Memorial Park

The City Pool at Veterans Memorial Park is also open to the public daily from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is just $1 for City residents, $2 for non-residents, and free for YMCA members.

The City of Hornell encourages families to take advantage of these outstanding summer recreation opportunities. Whether spending the day at one of the playground sites or cooling off at the pool, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this summer.
