Ricky A. Ives, 47, passed away at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester on Friday (August 14, 2026) following a brief illness.
Mr. Ives was born on May 20, 1979 in Wellsville to Monte J. and Theresa A. (Perry) Ives. He was a 1999 graduate of Wellsville Central School where he completed the BOCES program for welders. On June 14, 2008 at the Willing Town Hall, he married his sweetheart, Susie K. Shufelt, who survives.
Ricky began his welding career with L.C. Whitford in Wellsville and later welded for Air Preheater in Wellsville for 20 years, retiring in 2021. Ricky has been self-employed for the past five years transporting Amish, with whom he has developed many strong friendships.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 18 years, Susie Ives of Wellsville and their son Hunter Ives; both parents, Monte and Theresa Ives of Wellsville; three siblings, Angie (Darryl) Whitcomb of Buffalo, Tony Ives and Kristie (Brandon) Corbett, both of Wellsville; his Uncle Doug and Aunt Wendy Perry, Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue Perry, Uncle Mike and Aunt Dawn Perry, Aunt Roxanne and Uncle Bucky Lewis and Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Dean Miller; seven nieces and nephews, Kilee (Dawson) Breton, Treston Hodgkins, Destiny Hodgkins, Jaice Hoffman, Paris Kiffer, Monte (Danielle) Middaugh and Brandon Middaugh; two grand nephews, Ryder Middaugh and Logan Middaugh; cousins Cody Eisenhart, Christopher Perry, Jami Perry, Sherry (Jamie) Blauvelt, Deanna (Jim) McDonald, Kelly Miller and Dusty (Christie) Miller; two close friends, Craig Lewis and Pam Hutchison; and several more aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Alvin and Shirley Ives and Clinton and Marilyn Perry, Jr. and his brother, Ryan Ives.
Ricky loved spending time with family. A daily pastime was eating dinner out at Downey’s or Short’s or breakfast at Modern Diner, always with family or friends. He loved hunting and fishing, especially with his dad and never missed his son’s horse shows; cheering him on at the barrel races or pole bending. Runnings became his favorite store, especially the hunting section.
Ricky was known for his caring ways and would go out of his way to help anybody. It was for these reasons that he enjoyed his Amish passengers and became close with many of them, especially Harvey and Andy.
Visitation will be held on Monday (August 17) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Scio/Wellsville. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at York’s Corners Cemetery in Willing.
