Olney-Foust & Embers Funeral Home sponsors artwork and pumpkin contest on Friday October 9th

A 1,750-pound pumpkin is being carved up for a second day today on Main Street in Wellsville at the Fassett Greenspace Project next to the Stillwater Bar & Grill.
Eric Jones, the Food Network champion who has appeared on Halloween shows and holds the Guiness Book of World Records for carving the largest pumpkin, is doing a project for the community and judging a contest on Friday.
Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation reached out to Jones to do something for the community, and Jones hauled in the large pumpkin on MOnday night and started the carving on Tuesday. He is continuing and hopes to finish today with a few surprises.
On Friday, he is judging a contest for all ages from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fassett Greenspace, with prizes for most creative, scariest and best overall. Jones has some gifts to give out, some Buffalo Bills items and Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation has prizes as well.
“This is cool, I don’t think a 1,700-pound pumpkin has ever been carved in Wellsville and it’s only about one thousand pounds short of the world record,” Jones said. “To bring something like this into Allegany County makes me proud.”
Jones, a West Clarksville resident, said the pumpkin will be a witch with a cauldron. Today or Friday, the pumpkin may have more surprises.
“I might do the Pink House version of their haunted house and some bats on the other side. I might not have time today,” he warned, then added, “Artwork is never finished … it’s only abandoned.”
