Display a green light on your front porch in November, supporting veterans

From Steuben County,

The Steuben County Legislature has approved a memorandum supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans, reaffirming the County’s commitment to recognizing the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

As part of the initiative, Steuben County will illuminate County buildings and the Steuben County Courthouse in green for the month of November, joining communities across the nation in honoring veterans.

Operation Green Light is a national initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). It encourages counties, residents, businesses, and community organizations to display green lights as a visible symbol of appreciation for veterans and to raise awareness of resources available to support them.

The Legislature’s approved memorandum designates November as a time to honor veterans and recognizes their contributions to the freedoms Americans enjoy. It also affirms the County’s commitment to helping veterans access earned benefits, employment opportunities, and services that promote their quality of life.

Veterans continue to make a difference throughout Steuben County, serving their communities through organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, churches, and public service. However, some face challenges transitioning to civilian life, including housing insecurity, health concerns, financial difficulties, and employment barriers.

Residents, businesses, and community organizations are encouraged to participate by displaying a green light at their homes and workplaces for the month of November. This simple gesture demonstrates the community’s gratitude for those who have served our nation.

Veterans and their families seeking assistance with benefits, claims, and available services may contact the Steuben County Veterans’ Service Agency.
