Fire contained to kitchen, no injuries, investigation ongoing
At 2:17pm Saturday August 6th, The Bath Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 67 Geneva Street in the Village of Bath. A person walking by the home seen light smoke coming from the rear of the house. Assistant Chief David Dowdle was first on the scene and confirmed a working fire and then called for a second alarm which summoned mutual aid from neighboring departments.
The crew for the initial attack made entrance through the front door of the home and faced heavy smoke and heat conditions. They found heavy fire in the rear of the home in the kitchen. A quick and targeted attack quickly extinguished the fire keeping the fire damage to the kitchen area. There was however heat and smoke damage throughout the home. The quick knock down enabled a recall for most of the responding mutual aid units. The Bath VA Fire and Hammondsport fire departments did come to the scene as well as the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
There was no one home at the time of the fire and no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Steuben County Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene and currently leading the investigation as to the cause of the fire and are still on scene at this time.
