According to New York State Police, one scheme involves con artists approaching people at ATM machines. Scammers reportedly claim they are unable to withdraw their own cash and ask the victim to complete a withdrawal on their behalf. Once the transaction is complete, the scammer takes the money and leaves, leaving the helpful victim short-changed.
