Alfred State Western equestrian rider qualifies for nationals

ALFRED, NY, March 22, 2022 – Madeline Keyes (Middleport), a member of the Alfred State College western equestrian team, has qualified for a spot at the IHSA National Championships with a strong showing at the semifinals last weekend.

Keyes earned a 2nd place finish in individual open horsemanship and a 5th place finish in the individual open reining competition. The IHSA semifinals took place in Lubbock, TX.

Western equestrian head coach Rose Stayer-Ruffner was impressed and excited for Keyes. “Maddy is setting the bar high for IHSA and will continue on to represent Alfred State College at the national level. She is a talented athlete and remarkable person.”

Keyes was the Hi-point rider for the region and will compete at the IHSA National Championships in Harrisburg, PA in early May. (May 5-8)
