SWAT team helps end standoff in Wheeler, NY

A Bath man is charged with Possession of a Weapon, Imprisonment, Menacing and Criminal Mischief Arrest after being taken into custody on Sunday March 20th. The report from the Sheriff:

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on March 20, 2022, deputies and investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bruce E. G. Campbell, age 38, of West William Street, Bath, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Campbell did forcibly detain another person, threaten that person with a weapon and injury and damage property while on Bean Station Road, Wheeler, New York.

It is alleged that Mr. Campbell did not initially comply with orders to exit the residence and submit to his lawful arrest. The Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Unit responded and attempted to initiate contact with Mr. Campbell. It is further alleged that Mr. Campbell refused to cooperate with negotiators, and the Sheriff’s SWAT team responded. Mr. Campbell then surrendered himself and was taken into custody.

Mr. Campbell was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a class E Felony, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a class E Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Menacing in the Third Degree. Mr. Campbell was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released. Sheriff Allard thanks the New York State Police for their assistance in this arrest.
