A person who crashed and their vehicle caught fire after it overturned escaped the wreck on Saturday.

Amity-based State Police said Niki J. Arendt, 20, of Middleport went off Foster Lake Road in Alfred, struck a tree, overturned and caught on fire.

Arendt was able to get out of the vehicle and was not burned, police said.

Alfred and Alfred Station firefighters were able to put the large fire out before it spread to the pine trees and the woods.

No information on charges or injuries were reported.
