Just a few years removed from winning a state title in baseball, Livonia remains the team to beat in Livingston County Baseball.
On Wednesday, Hornell defeated the respected program, 4-3 in dramatic style.
In the top of the seventh with the game tied, 3-3, Hornell’s Jake Ponticello doubled in Griffyn Baker for the eventual winning run.
In softball, Alfred-Almond downed Hornell, 3-0.
Alfred-Almond’s Isabel Badeau did it all.
Badeau threw a 1-hitter with 13 strikeouts and hit a 2-run home run which would be all the offense she needed.
For Hornell, Jordyn Dyring made her varsity debut and the 8th-grader struck out five over five innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs.
Michayla Hubric had the lone Hornell hit while Parker Graham stole two bases.
“We are 1-1 but really headed in the right direction,” said Hornell coach Brian Dyring. “I’m excited about where the program is headed.”
