With a week left before the Section V tournament, the Alfred-Almond softball team picked a good time to make a statment with a 9-6 win over Campbell-Savona.
Olivia Flaitz tossed a complete game with two strikeuts to earn the win in the circle.
At the plate, Chloe Bracken had two hits and 2 RBI’s, Isabel Badeau had a hit and 3 RBI’s, Taylor Flaitz had a 2-RBi single, Olivia Flaitz and Ali Hurd each had a single and scored twice while Ryann Donlon scored two runs.
For Campbell-Savona, Jenna Machuga struck out two in six innings while Hannah Demong (RBI), Catrice Taft (two runs, RBI), Megan Sanford (RBI) all had two hits and Aurelia Najadi had an RBI.
Leroy 7, Hornell 3
Hornell was hoping for an upset win and to keep the win-streak going, but LeRoy’s ability to hit the ball and force Hornell mistakes was the difference in a 7-3 win for the Oaktan Knoghts.
Hornell took an early lead when Haley Smith singled, was bunted over by Izzy Barnes and scored on an RBI single by Jane Spitulnik.
Hornell then took a 3-0 lead an inning later when Parker Graham singled, Jordyn Dyring had a sacrifice bunt and Rae Evningham and Ireland Harrison drove in runs.
LeRoy answered with five runs, four unearned, and scored two more runs, one unearned, in the seventh.
Dyring went 5.2 innings giving up just two hits and one earned run, two walks and had six strikeouts. Evingham tossed 1.1 innings with two strikeouts, one walk and one earned run and only gave up one hit.
