Major house fire in Andover, youth arrested for arson

At approximately 10:00 am on June 29 the Andover Fire Department and Ambulance Corp were dispatched to a working structure fire at 1 Dyke St in the Village of Andover.  Andover Police arrived on scene and reported flames on the North Wall of the house.  Andover Fire was assisted on scene by Alfred Station, Wellsville and Whitesville with AE Crandell from Alfred standing by in Andover. Wellsville Ambulance also assisted.  Andover Police were able to save the birds and no injuries were reported. 

As a result of a joint investigation with the Andover Police Department and the Allegany County Fire Investigation Team a cause was determined.  Alfred Police and NY State Police assisted with Traffic Control.

The Andover Police Department arrested a 14 year old Andover youth for Arson in the 2nd degree.  The youth is to appear at the Allegany County Probation Department Intake on July 13 at 9 am.  

The Andover Police Department would like to thank all the first responders and the fire investigators for the assistance.  We would also like to thank the Allegany County Dispatchers for a job well done.
