Morse and Kiefer lead Steamers by Olean

Zach Morse (Alfred State) made a solid start and Connor Kiefer (Monroe CC) collected two RBI as the Hornell Steamers defeated Olean 4-1 on Tuesday. The Steamers are now 14-12 on the year.

The game was scoreless until the 5th inning when Hornell got on the board. BJ Arnold (Mercyhurst) singled and scored on a Peyton Johnson (Indiana U of PA) single two batters later. Hornell loaded the bases later in the inning and Johnson scored on a passed ball.

Kiefer delivered his first of two RBI singles in the 7th when his two-out single scored Brody Burdett (Alfred State).

Kiefer added an insurance run in the 9th when he hit another RBI single to score Jordyn Smith (Oklahoma Wesleyan).

Morse held the Oilers scoreless in the first six innings. He allowed his only run in the 7th and stranded ten runners on base. He allowed six hits and four walks while striking out five. Burdett came out of the pen with two outs in the 8th and got the final four outs to earn the save.

Kiefer was the lone Steamer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Hornell drew eight walks and was hit by three pitches.

Hornell begins a three-day homestand on Wednesday when they host Mansfield. The Steamers and Destroyers will complete their suspended game starting at 4 p.m. Hornell leads 4-0 in the bottom of the 4th. The two teams will play the regularly scheduled game 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game.
