The mission is simple: Bring local news back to the Maple City and surrounding area. The last decade has been a disaster for community-based news as corporate raiders systematically turned the daily news paper into a daily disappointment. Associated Press “wire stories” replaced local news stories. Student athletics and school news became a rarity. News about daily life in small towns across America has vanished, and hasn’t been replaced. Places like Hornell and Hammondsport can be now classified as “news deserts.”
The Hornell Sun has only been working toward our goal since January of 2022, but we are making progress. Readers will find not only Maple City news, but updates from all over Steuben County. We provide regular updates from the county sheriff, public health, and county administration. Wondering what is happening in Hammondsport? Interested in Canisteo law enforcement activity? What is happening in Alfred? The “Sun” offers news from these surrounding communities because…We are all connected.
