Michael T. Baldwin Reports
The Village of Bath Police Department Thursday investigated Anthony Kroeger, a 62-year-old, level 3 sex offender, residing at 3 E. William Street in the Village of Bath, for allegedly taking a 14-year-old out of state for two days without his parents consent and police said he was unknown to the parents. Anthony was also with two other 17-year-old students from Bath as well. Bath Police Chief Colin Taft said Kroeger, a five-time convicted felon, had just finished his parole after serving a 4-11 year sentence for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.
With the assistance of the Steuben County 911 Center and New York State Police Investigators assigned to their Amber Alert hotline, Kroeger was taken into custody in Washington, DC. Chief Taft said the children are safe and are in the custody of local child protective services until parents come to get them. Mr. Kroeger will go through the extradition process and be charged with Kidnapping 2nd Degree, a violent class B felony.
Several Bath PD officers worked 17-19 hours to assist with ensuring the children were found safe.
