Full day of instruction, encouragement, and empowerment at Hornell High School

On Saturday, October 15th, I had the pleasure of attending this all-day event. In attendance: Hoss Coates and members of the Vicious Elite Team; Athletic Director, John Cardamone, Hornell Wrestling Coach, Mark Woodworth, and the main attraction: Master Brian Fuery, UFC Hall of Famer, Rashad Evans, and Mus’Aib Baiyina.
The first event was a wrestling clinic. This clinic was from 9-11am and Master Fuery, Rashad Evans and Mus’Aib Baiyina interacted with the school wrestlers to teach wrestling techniques. These lucky student wrestlers in attendance were from: Hornell, Greece, Spencerport, and Elmira.
The meet & greet at the end of the day was very casual and people had an opportunity to ask questions, have photos taken, autographs, and Master Fuery took the time to show a technique to a young lad.
The highlight of the day for this photojournalist was the Lady’s self-defense clinic. The lady’s self-defense clinic was taught by Rashad Evans and Master Fuery. We learned to escape various choke holds and had our wrists and ankles duct taped…it felt empowering to break free.
Lori Cramp said it best:
“The love, honor, respect is incredible. I feel safe and confident now that you [Master Fuery & Rashad Evans] have taught me some lifesaving skills. I hope I never have to use the skills I was taught today but I feel sorry for the one that would think I am going to be an easy target. (I will make u wish u never picked me to hurt because I will FIGHT for my life). I sure hope they return again to train more because the skills they taught us could save your life too.”
I feel the exact same way!
Our trainers left us with these words of wisdom:
Rashad Evans said, “Preparation makes the best defense. Being confident in that preparation can be the difference between surviving or not.”
Brian Fuery said, “You deserve to be here. Every woman -mother, daughter, friend, family- have more in the tank than they know. The great strategist Sun Tzu said, ‘the opportunity to secure against defeat lies in our own hands but the opportunity to defeat an enemy lies in the hands of the enemy himself/herself.’ Come out next time because there’s more in store.”
It was incredible day that I would highly recommend for others to take advantage of attending the next time.
