Grand Larceny, weapons, narcotics, and welfare fraud

All those arrested are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law

December 6, 2022 Grand Larceny Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 2, 2022, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Tara M. Lathrop, age 40, of State Route 53, Bath, New York, following an investigation of a reported larceny in the Town of Wheeler. It is alleged that Ms. Lathrop intentionally stole property of another, valued in excess of three thousand dollars. Ms. Lathrop was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D Felony. Ms. Lathrop was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

December 6, 2022 Narcotics and Weapons Possession Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 6, 2022, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Riley P. Halbert, age 23, of Meadows Park, Arkport, New York and Amber R. Zeh, age 28, of Stroble Road Arkport, New York, following an investigation of illegal weapon possession. It is alleged that Mr. Halbert, as a convicted felon, possessed illegal weapons as well as suspected methamphetamine and a high capacity loading device. It is also alleged that Ms. Zeh possessed suspected methamphetamine, illegal weapons and a high capacity loading device. Mr. Halbert was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Ms. Zeh was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Both Mr. Halbert and Ms. Zeh were arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and held.

December 7, 2022 Misuse of Food Stamps, Petit Larceny Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 7, 2022, Investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested a female, age 55 of Clawson Boulevard, Montour Falls, New York. It is alleged that on 07/12/2021 She used another person’s benefit card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services. As a result, the accused allegedly obtained benefits which she was not entitled nor authorized to receive. She is charged with Misuse of Food Stamps, Misuse of Public Assistance, and Petit Larceny. The accused was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
