Alfred Farmers Market to Host Their First Holiday Bazaar this Sunday December 18

Head to the Alfred Fire Department from noon – 4pm

Shop over a dozen local farms, artists, and enjoy Christmas carolers !

The Alfred Farmers Market is hosting their first-holiday bazaar at the Alfred Fire Department on 4 South Main Street in Alfred. The bazaar takes place on Sunday, December 18th, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.  The market generally runs from June through October.  There was interest from many of the vendors to have a holiday market.  The market board members decided to make it happen.  The location is perfect and shoppers can park in the Montessori School Parking lot next to the Fire Department.

Carolers will perform from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.  There will be a table set up to provide assistance with SNAP so that everyone has an opportunity to purchase good local food for their Christmas dinner.  

Vendors participating include Bread for All, Designs by ScaryAnn, Hints Maple Syrup, Homestead on the Hill, Karen’s Creations, Light Fusion, Living Cultures Farm, Living Acres Farm,  Mascho Homestead Farms,  Mittens by Margie, Scandinavirens, Rikis Knits, Whisper Hill Farm, and Winey Shepherds.

Bread for All located in Arkport makes a variety of freshly baked bread and baked goods. Mary Ann Carpenter from Designs by ScaryAnn, uses chains to create interesting and unique jewelry.  She also creates other art and accepts custom orders. She has a store in Belfast.  Hints Maple Syrup is from Friendship and they sell local Syrup and maple products.  They sell chicken too. Homestead on the Hill from Angelica sells a wide variety of goat milk products.  Nick and Ann offer many scents to choose from. Scents that make you think of Christmas, a walk in the woods, tobacco and bourbon, cactus flower,  and more.  Karen Szymanski of Karen’s Creations is from Houghton. She sells fabric and quilted items.  She makes pot holders and aprons from African Fabric. She has table runners, Christmas wall hangings, corn bags, tote bags, and purses for sale.  Dave Biding from Light Fusion is a jewelry maker who works with blown glass. He sells beautiful rings, and necklaces in a variety of colors.  Living Cultures Farm located in Alfred Station will have dried Shitake mushrooms, ferments, and hand-carved wooden items for sale by their talented 11-year-old.  Living Cultures Farm located in Alfred Station will have handmade wreaths, winter vegetables, and greens. Mascho Homestead Farms offers pasture-raised beef products and pork. They can provide breakfast sausage for Christmas morning and delicious cuts of meat for your holiday gatherings.  They are located on Feathers Creek Road between Belmont and Angelica.  Mittens by Margie sells a variety of mittens that are made of wool and upcycled sweaters.  They are unique and one of a kind.  Scandinavirens sells baked goods made by Ren Finnemore. She uses Scandinavian recipes to create beautiful cookies and baked goods.  Ren is from Wellsville.  Riki Mullen of Riki’s knits lives in Hornell and creates beautiful hand-woven, knitted, and crocheted shawls, hats, sweaters, and more.  Chuck and Karen Annis of Wellsville own Whisper Hill Farms and provide the market with a variety of honey products, syrups, and medicinal tinctures.  These items make great gifts and the honey is perfect for winter baking or adding to tea. Last but not least is Winey Shepherd out of Cuba. They make Mead, that wonderful honey-based wine, that has been around for centuries. It is really good warm and perfect after snowshoeing, skiing, or a winter walk.  The garlic mead adds a wonderful flavor to recipes.  

This is an opportunity to support local farmers and artisans.  Stop over in Alfred this Sunday and enjoy an afternoon of shopping for unique gifts and supporting your local farmers.
