Hornell mourns the passing of longtime Alderman Joe Foreman

Statements from Mayor Buckley and former Mayor Shawn Hogan

News of Joe Foreman’s passing was a surprise to many. A sudden passing in Hilton Head, SC was announced and Hornell, NY clearly mourns the loss of a community leader.

Foreman represented the 5th ward in Hornell for two and half decades. He was also a member of the Hornell IDA board for two decades. It was clear by the words offered from those who have worked with Joe that he left his mark on Hornell NY.

Mayor John Buckley:

“My deepest condolences go out to the Foreman family during this difficult time. I had the honor and pleasure of serving with Joe on the Common Council for many years. Joe was always thoughtful and considerate in his approach and always worked for the betterment of the City and it’s residents. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”

Foreman was a veteran in Hornell public service with ties to former Mayor Shawn Hogan that go back to grade school. Foreman and Hogan worked together in Hornell City Government and with the Hornell IDA. Hogan had this to say about his lifelong friend and colleague:

“I had the pleasure of serving and working with Joe Foreman for many years with the City of Hornell. Where Joe served honorably for 26 years as the representative from the 5th Ward of Hornell. Joe also served over 20 years as a member of the Industrial Development Agency. An individual committed to serving his community . Joseph Foreman had been a friend of mine since High School, a true friend for over 50 years . My most sincere condolences to his family and his many, many friends and colleagues.”
