Deputies execute search warrants, arrest an inmate for assault, and make a meth bust

Search Warrant, Multiple Arrests

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 21, 2022, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team executed a Search Warrant at 234 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York. Investigators of the Sheriff’s Office, Village of Bath Police Department and City of Corning Police Department conducted an investigation into the reported sales of narcotics at the Charles Street location over the past three months. Suspected methamphetamine, cash, two rifles and two shotguns were recovered in the search. Arrested during the search were:

Joseph M. Valley, age 53, of Charles Street, Painted Post, New York. Mr. Valley was arrested on two Superior Court Indictment Warrants. Mr. Valley was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and three counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. All six counts are class B Felonies. Mr. Valley was arraigned in Steuben County Court and released.

A female, age 49, of Corning, New York. She was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. The accused was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Erwin Court.

A male, age 36, of Corning, New York. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. The accused was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Erwin Court.

Sheriff Allard thanks the Village of Painted Post Police Department, Village of Bath Police Department and the City of Corning Police Department for their assistance in this investigation and arrest.

Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 27, 2022, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Shawn M. Benjamin, age 41, of Charles Street, Corning, New York, following an investigation into a suspected parole violation in the Town of Corning. K9 Twiggy was requested by Parole for a residence search. K9 Twiggy alerted on at least two locations in the residence which allegedly contained suspected methamphetamine. It is alleged that Mr. Benjamin was under the supervision of New York State Parole and possessed quantities of suspected methamphetamine packaged for alleged sale. Mr. Benjamin was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B Felony. Mr. Benjamin was held in the Steuben County Jail due to a parole violation and will be arraigned in Steuben County Court at a later date.

Assault Arrest

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on December 27, 2022, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Solomon J. Hill, age 28, of MacDougall Avenue, Hornell, New York, following an investigation into a fight in the Steuben County Jail. It is alleged that Mr. Hill intentionally struck another inmate causing physical injury. Mr. Hill was charged with Assault in the Second Degree; Assault while Confined in a Correctional Facility, a class D Felony. Mr. Hill was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the Steuben County Jail.
