Central Steuben Chamber Awards: A look at Len McConnell, a community leader and Santa legend

McConnell, others to be honored at the February awards banquet

By JOHN ANDERSON

There is reason Prattsburgh is a special community to live.

The people.

And one of those people who has made a difference in his lifetime is Len McConnell.

On Feb. 25, McConnell will be honored at the Central Steuben Chamber of Commerce 2022 awards banquet when he receives the Community Lifetime Achievement Award.

McConnell served as the Prattsburgh town supervisor from 2012 to 2-22 and on the Prattsburgh planning board. When he wasn’t looking out for the taxpayers and helping the area grow, he was a leader and continues to put smiles on the faces of children.

After a long day working the Prattsburgh hardware store, he would put on the red costume and play Santa.

How much does that mean to him? He owned the hardware store 20 years. He’s been Santa for over 40 years!

Len achieved another incredible mark as a firefighter for over 50 years. He has been a Prattsburgh Boy Scout leader and a member of the Grange.

Len is retired from NYSEG and was the Prattsburgh Central School clerk of the works for 10 years.

Just those things alone are more than expected out of any community member. But Len was not done there. He volunteered many hours into details on the little things that are important for the community. One example the flag pole holder in the park and the dugouts for the little league field.

But his greatest accomplishments are his family.  He loves watching the grandsons play sports.  He loves Prattsburgh with all he has and is very proud that all his family are here and love it as much as he does.
