Retiring City Attorney Receives Proclamation and Key to the City

Monday night’s Common Council meeting was a special one for City Attorney, Joseph Pelych. Mayor John Buckley presented Pelych with a framed proclamation and a key to the City for his years of dedicated service. This meeting is planned to be the last for Pelych, as he intends to retire at the end of the month.

The proclamation highlights Pelych’s outstanding professional career and enduring commitment to the City. Assuming his position as City Attorney on January 27, 1986, Pelych has faithfully represented the City for 37 years. In addition to acting as City Attorney, Pelych has also served as a private practice provider, and a member of the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office.

“Joe has practiced law with compassion, tenacity, dedication, and diligence. Throughout his years of service, Joe has encountered many nuanced legal matters for the City and has handled them professionally. For 37 years the City has been able to count on Joe and his knowledge. We will miss Joe and wish him the best in his retirement,” said Mayor Buckley.

Pelych’s retirement is planned for February 28, 2023. The Common Council approved the appointment for Timothy Rosell to complete the remainder of the term expiring January 31, 2024.
