March 2023 full of felony arrests by state Troopers

A Nunda man was jailed on March 3rd for two felonies in the town of Hornellsville. Barney C May, 42, was charged with first degree felony burglary and first degree felony robbery. May was held in custody after the arrest.


A duo were arrested together for misdemeanors and felony charges in separate locations in Steuben County. Joshua J Barnes, 34 of Addison was arrested in the City of Corning and Patrick Rafferty, 30 of Addison in the town of Bath. Both men were arrested on the same charges of petit larceny and felony possession of a forged instrument.

Rafferty was also arrested on another round of charges from an incident in the town of Campbell.

Troopers report that both men were held in custody after the arrests.

Another pair face a slew of matching charges after arrests in the town of Campbell on March 5th. Two individuals were charged with multiple misdemeanors and felonies. Melissa J Hurley, 39 of Reading Center NY and Sheng Ke, 40 of Ithaca NY both face four charges and were held:

  • Misdemeanor Menacing in the 2nd degree, with a weapon
  • Misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Felony Burglary
  • Felony Robbery, with use of a dangerous instrument

In another case of felony burglary and other charges, John Minardo, 52, of Cohocton after an arrest in the same town. Minardo is accused to not just illegally entering a home with criminal intent but damaging the home and in the process disobeying a court order.

The charges filed are as follows, it is unclear if Minardo was held or released:

  • Felony Burglary, illegal entry with criminal intent
  • Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief, with intent to damage property
  • Misdemeanor Criminal Contempt, Disobey a court order

In the town of Caton, a 16-year old name protected juvenile was arrested for burglarizing a dwelling. The child was charged with 2nd degree burglarly.


Troopers arrested Joseph E. Jackson, age 59 for felony sexual abuse of a minor under 13 years of age. The Wayland NY man was arrested in his hometown and was held after the arrest.
