After a big win to open the 2023 season this week, Hornell had two tough innings late, falling to Wayland-Cohocton, 11-2.
Hornell coach Joe Flint credited Wayland-Cohocton’s pitching for keeping the Red Raider at bat until the Way-Co bats picked up late.
“Wayland Cohocton’s Tony Schirmer kept us off balance all night and he only gave up five hits in five innings,” said Flint, as Schirmer improved to 2-0.

Wayland-Cohocton improved to 3-0 on the season thanks to Issac Mehlenbacher, who ripped a two-out, RBI single in the fifth inning. Michael Gammell was 2-for-4 with a RBI for the Eagles while Dolan Cotter had two hits.
Hornell had another solid pitching effort on the mound.
Andy Davis went five innings, but most runs were unearned with four errors by the defense.
Also for Hornell, Davin Oyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Wyatt Argentieri went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Hornell hosts defending Class C champion Bolivar Richburg today while Way-Co hosts Livonia on Saturday.
