Hornell’s Flaitz and Delany continue success, winning four events each
The Hornell Red Raiders opened the LCAA season at Dansville on Thursday. It was the inaugural meet at their new athletic facilities. Both the Girls and Boys teams battled but came up short against a strong Mustang squad. The final Girls’ score: Dansville 96-Hornell 51. On the Boys’ side it was Dansville 88-Hornell-56.
Elaina Flaitz was a quadruple winner for the Lady Raiders taking first place in the 400m Hurdles (1:10.4), the 100m Hurdles (17.2), and the High Jump (5-3) She also anchored the winning 400m relay. Lainey’s 5-3 jump pluts her first overall in Section V.
Other first-place finishes for the Girls were: Ella White-100m dash (12.9), Elisa Bodin-3000m run (13:02), and Maykeigh Martin-Long Jump (13-11.5).
Selena Maldonado picked up two second-place spots in the 200m (26.9) and the Pole Vault (6-1), and Silvia Carretto added two third-place finishes in the 800m (2:47.2) and the 1500m (6:07).
The Girls 400m Relay team of Riley Harwood, White, Maldonado, and Flaitz also took first place in a time of 52.5.
For the Boys team, Brennan Delany was also a quadruple winner with first place finishes in the 110m Hurdles (15.2), Pole Vault (12-7), High Jump (6-0), and Long Jump (20-7). Those first three performances are all new personal bests for Brennan. It also places him first in the 100 Hurdles and Pole Vault and second in the High Jump on the Section V Leaderboard.
Also picking up first-placce spots were Evan Clair-Shot Put (38-4.5), Dominic Lockwood-Discus (89-7), and Jacob Phillips-400m Hurdles (1:03.0).
Austyn Gollnitz-100m (11.9) and Kellan Crowe-200m (24.4), along with Phillips-Triple Jump (37-4.5) and Clair-Discus (86-6) grabbed second-place finishes.
“Overall, the coaching staff was very pleased with our teams’ performances in their first meet. The veterans picked up where they left off last season or at the end of the’23 Indoor campaign. While Elaina and Brennan dominated the competition, many of our younger athletes proved they are ready to compete at the highest levels of Section V competition., including Ella White, Silvia Carretto, Riley Harwood, Austyn Gollnitz, and Kellan Crowe, Addditionally, for the Boys, the Red Raiders dominated in the Field Events taking five out six first place finishesThrowers “took care of business’ in the Field events. And for the Lady Raiders, the 400m Relay time of 52.5 places them in third overall in Section V.”
