Local High School Trap Shooters wrap up the season with success, Gallery

This past Saturday marked the closing of the NYS High School Clay Target League’s Spring 2023 Regular Trap Shooting Season.  This year’s League consisted of 136 schools assigned to 17 Conferences across two Classes consisting of 2472 athletes.  Both the Arkport and Canisteo-Greenwood teams completed their fourth year of competition in the League’s biggest and toughest conference, the teams finished 3rd and 4th respectively.  Arkport and Canisteo-Greenwood had never competed in the same conference previously but after the third week Arkport moved ahead of Canisteo-Greenwood and didn’t look back, Arkport now leads the friendly, unofficial rivalry 1-0.

The following finished in the Top 25 Males in Class 2A, Conference 5:  Arkport Sophomore Richard Flaitz with a 2nd, Arkport Junior Daniel Clark with a 3rd, Canisteo-Greenwood Junior Taige Stewart tied for 6th, Canisteo-Greenwood Junior Beau Zeh tied for 11th, and Arkport Freshman John Marcus & Canisteo-Greenwood Sophomore Chase Reinbold tied for 16th.

The following finished in the Top 25 Females in Class 2A, Conference 5:  Canisteo-Greenwood Sophomore Lauren Markel with 1st, Arkport Freshman Grace Groves with a 2nd, Arkport Freshman Sarah Smith with a 5th, Arkport Freshman Liliana Stauring with a 12th, Arkport Senior Elizabeth Smith with a 13th, Canisteo-Greenwood Freshman Isabella Bixby with a 17th and Canisteo-Greenwood Junior Abigail Lain with an 18th.

The following finished in the Top 25 Males in the State:  Arkport Sophomore Richard Flaitz brought home 15th with a 23.60 season average and Arkport Junior Daniel Clark came in 18th with a 23.50 season average.

The following finished in the Top 25 Females in the State:  Canisteo-Greenwood Sophomore Lauren Markel secured the number 1 spot in the State with a 23.20 season average; Arkport Freshman Grace Groves came in tied for 13th with a 21.60 season average and Arkport Freshman Sarah Smith shared the 23rd spot with a 20.70 season average.

Each year the League recognizes the Top 100 Shooters in the State, out of the 2472 athletes Arkport and Canisteo-Greenwood secured some positions.  Arkport Freshman Richard Flaitz came in tied for 15th,  Arkport Junior Daniel Clark tied for 18th,  Canisteo-Greenwood Junior Taige Stewart & Freshman Lauren Markel tied for 34th, Canisteo-Greenwood Junior Beau Zeh tied for 53rd and Arkport Freshman John Marcus & Canisteo-Greenwood Sophomore Chase Reinbold tied for 79th .

Both teams are continuing their practicing at the Almond Rod & Gun Club as they prepare for the New York State Tournament in Cicero, NY on June 11th.  After that, some of the athletes are going to pack their bags and head West for the National Championship in Mason, Michigan from July 5th through the 9th.

Both teams would like to offer their gratitude to the Almond Rod & Gun Club for their continued support and a place for these athletes to shoot. We would also like to think the parents, the schools, and the communities.
