Fire which shuttered the landfill is still under investigation

BATH — The Hornell transfer station will be open Saturday (June 3), after the station was closed due to a fire Saturday night (May 27), Steuben County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose said Thursday.

Rose said damage to the station was extensive, adding the investigation into the fire is still continuing.

“What made the difference in opening this soon is, our county employees and subcontractors put in long, hard hours,” he said.

Rose said his department was able to use the down time to complete minor facility upgrades.
