Police Respond to Suicidal Person in Alfred, Allegany County Sheriff drone deployed

Alfred, NY – On June 22, 2023, at approximately 6:30 PM, Alfred Police responded to a residence on Pine Hill Drive in the village of Alfred for a respondent who threatened to harm themselves with a firearm.
A perimeter was set up in the neighborhood by the New York State Police, State police BCI, Alfred State University Police, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alfred Police Department. It was determined that the respondent had a rifle with extra ammunition while in the woods.
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Department drone was deployed and used to search the area and to pinpoint the respondent’s location.
After about 2 hours, the respondent requested a cigarette. Officers were then able to talk with the respondent and have the respondent turn over the weapon. The respondent was then taken into custody without incident.
The Alfred Police Department would like to thank the agencies that responded to the scene, including the New York State Police, State Police BCI, Alfred State University Police, and Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Their cooperation and coordination were essential in resolving this incident safely.
