The Board of Public Safety unanimously approved the appointment of Christopher Davis as firefighter for the City of Hornell Fire Department during their July meeting.

Davis, a 2014 graduate of Canisteo-Greenwood School District, has an extensive background in firefighting and emergency medical services (EMS). He has been actively affiliated with the Canisteo Fire Company since 2012 and has previously worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with American Medical Response (AMR) and Livingston County EMS. Davis is already familiar to the Hornell Fire Department, having been approved as callman in January 2023.

Chief Brzozowski was enthusiastic about the appointment, “We are excited for Chris to join our department. He has demonstrated a strong passion for serving in his community, in both fire and EMS, with his long involvement as a volunteer. With his extensive experience, he is eager to learn and grow professionally with our department. He is a welcome addition to our department.”

Davis’s appointment brings the current roster of the Hornell Fire Department to a total of twenty-two members. Upon reviewing Davis’s resume and interview, Mayor John Buckley highlighted his commitment to the field of fire and EMS, “Your long-standing involvement from a young age, coupled with your pursuit of this profession as a full-time career, really stood out to me. We welcome you to the department and look forward to the contributions you will make to our community.”

Davis was familiar to Commissioner Scott Richardson who approved the appointment, adding, “I know Chris to be a hardworking, dedicated individual that has committed himself to serving his community, and the Canisteo Valley, by his years of service with the ambulance.”

Davis will assume duties at the Hornell Fire Department in the coming weeks and plans to enroll in the fire academy in the fall.
