The Board of Public Safety unanimously approved the appointment of Trey Swackhamer as firefighter for the Hornell Fire Department during their August meeting. With an impressive background spanning nearly a decade in emergency services, Swackhamer brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role. Swackhamer began his career with the Arkport Fire Department, serving nine years as a volunteer fireman. He also has worked for ambulance service providers such as American Medical Response in Corning/Rochester and Livingston County Emergency Medical Services as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Most recently, Swackhamer served as a Steuben County 911 dispatcher.
Chief Frank Brzozowski was enthusiastic about the appointment, stating, “We are excited for Trey to join our department and the wealth of experience he provides as both a firefighter and medic. He knows the operations of emergency services. His familiarity with emergency services will complement our department’s capabilities.” Mayor John Buckley was similarly impressed, “Trey interviewed very well throughout a rigorous interview process with both the Board and Captains. His impressive background, having served as a volunteer firefighter for nine years while concurrently working as an EMT and dispatcher, is a testament to his dedication to public safety and service.”
Swackhamer’s appointment is effective August 10th, with plans to enroll in the fire academy in the fall.
