New decking and a handicap ramp added to pier
From the City of Hornell
Visitors to Shawmut Park will notice an upgrade to the popular fishing pier at the park. The pier was recently replaced by the City of Hornell Department of Public Works.
When viewing the completed pier, Mayor John Buckley stated, “We are fortunate to have beautiful parks in the City of Hornell that are enjoyed by many, and this deck replacement is part of continuing improvements and investments in our parks. I want to commend the DPW, specifically highlighting the contributions of Ashley Brown, Phil Shepard, Tom Bebout, Dave McMichael, and Bongo Flaitz for their work on this deck replacement. Everyone did an outstanding job!”
Ashley Brown, Assistant Superintendent of Public Works explained the enhancements made during the replacement. “We opted to use composite decking for the replacement. It offers lower maintenance, enhanced durability, easier cleaning, and an extended lifespan. The upgrade also includes the addition of a concrete ramp for improved access and convenience for all of our park visitors.”
Visitors can now enjoy the new pier on their next visit to Shawmut Park.
