2nd Annual Community Baby Shower set for September 30 in Hornell

Over 30 vendors and the “Bikeman” will give away 15 bikes to lucky kids!

The Hornell Elks Lodge is excited to announce its 2nd annual Community Baby shower and we would like to invite all expecting moms, dads, grandparents, and caregivers of children 5 or under taking place on September 30, from 12 pm to 2 PM at the Hornell YMCA.

Our Baby Shower event started in 2022 when the lodge was working on grant proposals and looking into the local community’s needs. Having seen Community Baby Showers in other local areas, the grant committee communicated with local businesses, non-profits, etc. to see if they would be interested in setting up as vendors. With this being our first year, we had expectations of 18 “vendors”; and expected roughly 50 guests from the community.  Within 20 minutes of us opening the doors, it was very clear that this event was going to be a success as the line was around the block.  We ended our day with over 250 community guests, and some very excited vendors who voiced that this was one of the best events that they had been to.

Due to the success of our 2022 event, we knew as the event coordinators we would need a much larger space, and we needed to include activities to keep kids entertained while the adults talked to the vendors. Partnering with the Hornell YMCA, who has donated the use of the gym.  This large venue will allow us to have one side for the vendors and the other will be kids’ activities; such as; a bounce house, GaGa Ball, and an arts & crafts area. These activities will be operated by volunteers of the Elks Lodge and Hornell High School Seniors.  This year’s event hosts 31 vendors (listed below), and 8 organizations (listed below) who are unable to attend, yet want to be part of this great event; so they have donated either funds or door prizes. One of our biggest supporters is Fidelis Care Health Insurance who has graciously donated $1000 to aid in our efforts to be added to the Hornell Elks Club’s $2000, which came from the Spotlight Grant funds and totaled $2,000 from the Elks National Foundation. This grant is intended to help assist the local community with needs such as continuing education, preventing/combating poverty, and general well-being and collaboration with community members.

Participants will receive information on what is in their local community, receive free giveaways, and opportunities to win door prizes.  But best of all, this event will give them the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the Steuben, Allegany, and Livingston County community partners that are listed below in a central location.

Any business/organization/club that would like to take part in this year’s or next year’s event, please email hornellcommunitybaybshower@gmail.com or call Hornell Partners for Growth at 607-324-9786, and your information will be provided to the Elks Lodge Grants Coordinator.
