AVON – Three different players scored two goals apiece as No. 4 seeded Avon whipped No. 13 Marcus Whitman 7-0 in Section V Class C1 first-round action Tuesday.

Dominic Patti, Trevor Stroud and Austin Lattuca all scored twice for the Braves, who led 4-0 at the intermission.

Patti opened the scoring assisted by Lattuca just three minutes into the game.

About 60 seconds later, Stroud scored assisted by Patti for the quick 2-0 lead.

And just three minutes later, Josh Harter added a goal for the Braves to make it a 3-0 game.

With about six minutes remaining in the first half, Stroud scored again assisted by Patti as the Braves led 4-0 at the intermission.

Patti netted his second goal three minutes after the break while Lattuca scored a minute later assisted by Harter.

Before the midway part of the second half, Avon scored their final goal when Lattuca netted his second goal to wrap up the scoring.

“We controlled possession and produced many, many good scoring chances,” Avon coach Tony Patti said. “As we took control of the game, we were able to play many of our younger players, who were experiencing their first sectional action. It was a great team effort but there is still much work to be done.”

Dom Patti leads Avon this season with 14 goals and seven assists while Lattuca and Stroud have added nine and eight goals respectively.

With the victory, Avon (10-4-3) will get a rubber match with No. 5 Pavilion/York.

Both teams split the season series with P/Y earning the hard-fought 1-0 win back on Sept. 13 in Pavilion while the Braves returned the favor with the 2-1 home victory on Oct. 3.

Saturday’s game will take place in Avon at 6 p.m.

“Saturday will be a very tough game against Pavilion/York,” coach Patti said. “(Kyan) Tiede is an excellent player but they have many dangerous pieces. We have a ton of respect for them and will have to play our best to come out on top. It will be a real challenge.”
