Former Yates County legislator pleads to felony sexual abuse charge

In a recent development, former Yates County legislator and prominent local figure, John “Jack” Clancy, entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of sexual abuse in Yates County Court.

District Attorney Todd Casella confirmed that Clancy pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted sexual abuse, a class E felony. The sentencing for Clancy is scheduled for January 29, and it will be presided over by Acting County Judge Barry Porsch. Under the terms of this plea agreement, Clancy may face a maximum sentence of 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation, along with mandatory registration as a sex offender.

CHARGE: Sexual Abuse in the 1st degree

NARRATIVE:

John C. Clancy was arrested after an investigation into allegations that he subjected a Town of Benton resident to sexual contact when they were incapable of consent. He was arraigned in Yates CAP court and will answer this charge in the future.
