Republicans sweep contested districts in Hornell Common Council contest

It is safe to say that after yesterday’s election results, Hornell has turned red Republican. Led by Mayor John Buckley, every ward represented in the Common Council except the 10th Ward are Republicans. The lone Democrat, John Carbone, was re-elected but only be six votes over challenger Tiffany Patterson.

Turnout was low which is typical for an “off cycle” election. Read the full results from Steuben County below this summary of the contested ward results:

1st Ward, challenger David Sutfin(R) 58 votes, incumbent Melissa Ponticello(D) 30 votes

4th Ward, Steve Peck(R) 79 votes, Jose Cruzado(D) 38 votes

6th Ward, incumbent Lita Brown(R) 64 votes, challenger John Bradley(D) 26 votes

8th Ward, incumbent James Bassage(R) 71 votes, challenger Sean Stewart(D) 26 votes
