LCAA’S FINEST

BROCKPORT – Canisteo-Greenwood’s Beau Zeh scored on a 3-yard TD run with 55 seconds left as the No. 3 Chargers defeated No. 1 York/Pavilion for the Section V Class D title Friday at SUNY Brockport.

The winning drive came after the longest play of the game, a 40-yard pass from QB Collin Cox to Carson Chaffee, that put the ball at the Y/P 12 with under two minutes remaining.

With one final chance to tie things up and Y/P freshman Trent Englert making a nice play on a squib kick near midfield, QB Parker Bonefede’s deep pass was picked off by Lucas Mason to end the game.

This one was all defense, with only one play going for 20 yards.

Coming into Friday’s title game, York/Pavilion was ranked No. 9 in the state in Class D while C-G was ranked No. 15.

Y/P defeated Canisteo-Greenwood 13-12 back on Sept. 22.

Y/P’s Austin Cummins was named the top lineman in the game while teammate Joe Bauer earned top defensive back honors.

Brennan Royce was also all over the field for the Golden Knights, who fell to 8-2.

The Chargers will play undefeated Clymer/Sherman/Panama (10-0) in next Friday’s Far West Regionals at Williamsville South High School at 5 p.m.

CSP defeated Wilson 38-12 in the Section VI finals Thursday night.

CSP is ranked No. 2 in NYS Class D.
