Hall of Fame Showcase : York downs defending state champ A/P as Pangrazio and Brady both shine

WAYLAND – York’s had a 29-point victory over defending NYS Class D champion Avoca/Prattsburgh .

The Golden Knights turned it up on either side of the court, whenever they chose to, building a 19-6 lead after one, extending it to 35-16 at the half and finishing the game with the 77-48 victory at the Wayland Hall of Fame Showcase Saturday in Wayland.

York placed three players in double figures including seniors Jake Pangrazio and Tyler Brady who combined for 44 points.

Pangrazio finished the game with 24 points, including three, second-half trifectas while Brady bobbed and weaved his way to 20 points.

Pangrazio would earn MVP honors for the Golden Knights, who improved to 2-0 on the season.

Parker Bonafede and Joe Bauer added 11 and eight points respectively.

Avoca/Prattsburgh (0-1), who started two eighth-graders, was led by JJ Crowder with 19 points while Macoy Putnam netted 16.

“It was a good win for us today,” York head coach Eddie Orman Jr. said. “Prattsburgh always offers a variety of challenges in how they play and compete. We were able to maintain our focus for a majority of the night and get some high-quality stops when needed.”

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marcus Whitman 45, Dansville 35

A slow start doomed Dansville during their Hall of Fame Showcase contest with Marcus Whitman Saturday.

The Wildcats led 12-6 after one and 22-12 at the intermission.

Dansville (0-1) was led by Reese Dixon with 15 points and two rebounds while Nate Gardner added nine points and two assists.

Ivan Wolf Mialky chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds while Zaiden VanDurme-Blackmon netted two points with four assists and three rebounds. Caleb Knapp added two points and five caroms for the Mustangs, who will host their tourney Thursday.

Naples 47, Keshequa 42

Ian Hinrich led all scorers with 19 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks as the Indians fell to Naples Friday.

Despite cutting the deficit to just four points late in the fourth quarter behind Aiden Upright’s eight final-period points, Naples was able to hold off the comeback and come away with the victory.

Upright finished the night with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Also for Keshequa, Owen Pike added six points, three assists and two rebounds while Zach Smathers added three points and four steals.

Keshequa (0-2) hosts Houghton Academy on Monday.
