WAYLAND – Gennaro Picco and Aaron McInerney both scored 15 points while PJ Picco added 14 as Hornell outlasted Corning 63-59 at the Wayland Hall of Fame Showcase Saturday night.

Gennaro hit 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Hornell trailed by as many as five points in the fourth quarter.

Wyatt Evingham also hit double figures in scoring with 10 points.

Corning’s Kyler Stevenson finished with a game-high 24 points.

PJ Picco earned player of the game honors.

“We played outstanding defense all night long against a very good Corning team,” Hornell coach Kirk Scholes said. “Kids fought hard and battled all night. We had a lot of guys step up and knock down shots. Aaron McInerney hit five big threes. Marco Picco hit a clutch shot in the last minute to give us the lead. Wyatt Evingham was tremendous defensively guarding Nolyn Proudfoot all night. PJ Picco hit a deep three late in the game and did a great job on the boards. I thought the whole group stayed together even when we were down five in the fourth quarter. Very proud of the group tonight.”

Hornell improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Raiders are off until Friday when they host Warsaw.
