The beloved Hornell physician passed away in 2021

Hornell, NY – Dec 12… Last week, St. James Hospital proudly unveiled a commemorative plaque dedicated to the late Family Medicine Doctor Virginia Shephard-Sciotti at the St. James Hospital Primary Care Clinic Suite 109 in the Medical Office Building. The plaque marks a generous donation to the St. James Foundation by Mike Sciotti and family in loving memory of Dr. Shephard-Sciotti, a revered Hornell Primary Care Doctor, who passed away on December 14th, 2021.
Dr. Virginia Shephard-Sciotti played an instrumental role in the Hornell community’s healthcare landscape, leaving a mark on countless patients’ lives. Throughout her distinguished career, she demonstrated unwavering dedication, compassion, and expertise while working in various departments at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Mike Sciotti, in a heartfelt statement, reflected on his wife’s extraordinary accomplishments.
“My wife, Doctor Virginia Shephard, was a consummate professional. She worked rounds at the old St. James Hospital as well as making house calls for her elderly patients. She loved her patients, her family, and her community and was grateful to serve us all. She was proud to be a trailblazer for female doctors, physician assistants, and nurses who followed her path. She left us way too soon, but we will always remember her in our hearts forever.”
Regrettably, due to declining health, Dr. Shephard-Sciotti retired on October 2nd, 2019. Despite her retirement, the impact of her contributions to healthcare and her compassionate approach to patient care continued to resonate within the community.
