Hornell girls’ basketball coach Jim Dagon finally had a chance to stand back and enjoy the moment.

After weeks of intense games to the wire, the Hornell Red Raiders put together a complete game from the tip off in a 70-41 win over Bath-Haverling on Wednesday night.

While Haverling had a strong second quarter, Alexis Smith, Zahra Mehr, A’jonay Hawkins and Brazilian foreign exchange student Larissa Bezerra all had baskets in the second half as the Red Raiders pulled away.

“The regular rotational players came out and took care of business early tonight and it allowed us to get everyone into the game to play meaningful minutes. We have a handful of players who are seeing their first varsity minutes this year who we hope can fill critical roles as the year progresses, so nights like tonight are very valuable for the team as a whole,” Dagon said.

Jordyn Dyring led Hornell with 15 points while Lillian Hoyt had 13, Payton Bentley 10, Selena Maldonado 8, Raegan Evingham 7, Mia Nasca 5 and Kadience Gollnitz 4.

The NY Landquest team are big fans!!!

The girls made it a point to make sure everyone on the team scored tonight, and they accomplished that goal which made all of us coaches very proud,” Dagon said. “It showed their selflessness and dedication to the team. I want to give a big shout out to three of our players who scored their first varsity points in tonight’s game: Zahra Mehr, Alexis Smith, and our Brazilian foreign exchange student Larissa Bezerra!”
