The City of Hornell received some good news this week as it secured the top spot for the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Places to Live in Upstate New York That Are Still Affordable.” The list was generated from data according to “The Council for Community and Economic Research’s Cost of Living Index,” with Hornell’s charm and affordability earning it this recognition.
Mayor John Buckley expressed his thoughts on hearing this news, “Hornell being ranked first on this list is a nice reminder of how truly blessed we are to live in such a beautiful city nestled in this gorgeous valley. As I mentioned in my State of the City Address, Hornell continues to lead the region in affordability. Whether it’s water, sewer, garbage collection, or the myriad of other services the City offers, there is tremendous value living here in the Maple City.”
City Chamberlain Michele Smith echoed those sentiments, stating, “We are proud to be first on the list of the most beautiful yet affordable places in New York. As City Chamberlain, my goal is to have sound fiscal practices while offering high-level services. Many living in the City of Hornell appreciate the benefits we have, and it’s nice to be recognized for it. We remain committed to providing a city where beauty and affordability go hand in hand.”
This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of the community, from employees providing services to Department Heads managing budgets, and the collaboration of the Chamberlain, Mayor, and Council in drafting and approving budgets. The City of Hornell has been fortunate and is dedicated to building a bright and sustainable future.
8th Ward Alderman James Bassage states, “If you have lived in Hornell, you have likely quickly realized what a great place this is to live and raise a family. We are fortunate to have affordable housing and services, along with a growing job market. We have some beautiful parks that youth, families, and the community can enjoy. Hornell is a genuine gem in the Southern Tier, and we should be very proud of that.”
