From the Friends of Mike Smith,

Please join us for a Celebration of Life & Benefit for Mike Smith on Sunday, January 28 starting at 9 am, 245 Canisteo Street, Hornell VFW.  A bake sale, 50/50 & Basket Raffle will take place starting at 9 am, noon come to join the family, talk about your favorite memories about Mike, and enjoy finger foods, anyone who wants to get up and talk, tell stories about Mike when we were kids… or even last week… all are welcome!

Come and go as you need to, this is a very informal day.  DJ Truth will help keep the mood light as he plays Mike’s favorite songs.   

If you pre-ordered a Spaghetti Dinner Pick up starts at 4 pm, we may have some for sale the day of but in very limited amounts. 

All Funds raised will go to Mike’s Family, anyone who wants to volunteer to help with this event please just come to the VFW any time during the day.  If anyone would like to donate a basket or items to be placed in a basket can take them to the VFW any time. 

Mike’s obituary from Brown and Powers:

Michael Ray Smith, 51, of Bemis Ave., passed away Saturday (Dec. 16, 2023) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Olean, Nov. 23, 1972, he had been a resident of Hornell for several years. He had been employed by Overhead Doors Inc. as a garage door installer.

Surviving are his parents, Leon and Maxine Claypool of Hornell, his long-time companion, Kelly Myers of Hornell, his daughters, Taylor Myers of Perry, Alyssa Smith of Hornell, Emalee Butler of Hornell, his sons, Roger Carr of Colorado, Tad Smith of Hornell, Cole Young of Greenwood, Bryce Smith of Tennessee, and Jayson Myers of Perry, his brother, Gerald Button of Pennsylvania, his sister, Nicole Quiroz of Nunda, two grandchildren, Payton Sullivan and Cal Young and another on the way, nieces and nephews.

 A Celebration of Life will be held in January at a time to be announced. Gerald R. Brown at Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
