William C. “Bill” Raub, 81, Friendship

William C. “Bill” Raub – 81 – of 5173 Whitcomb Road, Friendship, NY died Monday evening (March 11, 2024) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville where he was taken after being stricken at home.

Born in Hornell on March 16, 1942, he was the son of Earl Raub & Mary (Martin) Raub.

Bill grew up in Hornell and attended Hornell High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy and traveled extensively throughout the world, serving aboard on a US Navy Aircraft Carrier along with time at Patuxent River Maryland while doing aircraft maintenance.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bill resided in Jacksonville, FL before returning to Hornell where he was employed in the trades, and at Crowley’s Dairy in Arkport.  Following a move to South Dayton, NY, Bill was employed as maintenance superintendant for Carnation Dairy Facility.

Years later, Bill lived in South Carolina where he was employed as an engineer at PET Dairies.  He later resided in Virginia where he served as Chief Engineer in the construction of Shenandoah’s Pride Dairy Processing Facility in Mount Crawford, VA.  He later returned to Florida and subsequently South Dayton, then resided in Friendship for the past 12 years.

Bill became a member of the Genesis Bible Church of Scio, NY when he was baptized by Pastor Marc Chamberlain. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting & fishing and was a former member of the Hornell Moose Lodge. His greatest joy, however, was simply spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by other close family members.

Bill was married for 61 years to the former Beverly Preston who survives.  Also surviving are 2 sons, William “Bill” (Cindy) Raub JR of Friendship and Wayne (Everlyn) Raub of Friendship; his daughter, Silka Raub of Kane, PA; several siblings, including his sister, Lorna Palmiter-Dansby; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

The family of William C. “Bill” Raub will receive friends on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4:00 PM with Pastor Marc Chamberlain officiating.  Final interment will be in Rural Cemetery.

Bill’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to either the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY  14843 or the Hornell YMCA, 18 Center St., Hornell, NY  14843.
