Eleanor Janet “Dolly” Davison Gosper,             Angelica/West Almond

Eleanor J. Gosper, formerly of Turnpike Road a longtime resident of West Almond, passed away peacefully on Friday (April 12, 2024) at Updyke’s Willow Ridge Assisted Living Home.

 Dolly was born in North Hornell, February 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Cash and Edith (Thomas) Davison. She had resided in West Almond most of her life, growing up on Jersey Hill, and graduating from Hornell High School. On February 10, 1948 she married Chester A. Gosper II who predeceased her on December 13, 2004.

Early in her career she was a beautician in Bolivar, later working for the former Westinghouse in Bath, the former Allegany County Infirmary, and later retiring from Allegany County in 1995, as a Support Investigator and was also an Election Inspector for the Town of West Almond for many years. Eleanor’s hobbies included race car driving (early in life and holding many trophies), slot machines especially the ones in Las Vegas, traveling out West many times with her husband, family and friends,  Dolly also loved playing cards, going out to dinner, and taking long rides with her buddy “Jack” her dog. She will be forever remembered as one of the most giving people on earth, an incredible cook and baker, most famous for her chocolate fudge cake, and sticky cinnamon rolls.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Chester A. Gosper II, her 2 daughters Janet Gordon and Reva Lentola, her brothers Richard, Bob, and Bud Davison, and her sisters Carolyn Beard, Noreen Hall, and Beverly Trimble, and her sister in law Roberta Pomeroy, her brother in law Donald “Pete” Coombes

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Alf) Allen of Belmont, her son Chester A. Gosper III of Angelica, her grandchildren Chester Gosper IV, Casey Mcrae, Josie Preston, Darin Carmichael, Myriah James, Chetreva Bryan , Harley Lentola, Crystal Ward and  Heath ”Buddy” Gordon, several great grandchildren, great great grandchild, her sister in law Shirley Coombes of West Almond, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present on Wednesday (April 17, 2024 from 4-7pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Avenue in Angelica. A Funeral services will be held Thursday (April 18, 2024) at the Funeral Home at 11:00am, the Rev. Stephen Crowell will officiate. Immediately following will be a luncheon at the Angelica American Legion (All are invited).  Burial will be in Alfred Rural.
